About the Role

The core function of the Academic Team Intern is to work alongside the Academic Team to ensure the quality of our instructional materials. Our videos, lesson plans, documents, practice problems, and assessments are used tens of thousands of times daily, and it is critical that the teachers and students who count on LearnZillion have an high quality and rewarding experience.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the creation and improvement of teacher and student-facing instructional materials such as videos, documents, and presentation slides, including supporting the artistic design of the materials
  • Ensure the quality of all instructional materials by reviewing, repairing, revising, and editing videos, documents, images, and presentation slides
  • Support the academic team in improving production quality and processes over the long term
  • Review site content proactively to identify areas for improvement

About the Position

Reporting directly to the President (a co-founder), you will be a part of the leadership team to manage key aspects of our financial functions and processes. You will be responsible for deeply understanding the product and business, pushing for financial strength and excellence, and enabling the team with effective processes that support both quality execution and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain current business forecast and cash flow model
  • Develop financial models and strategic analyses
  • Prepare Board reports
  • Manage corporate operations team
  • Implement budgeting process
  • Oversee the relationship with our accountants and bookkeeper
  • Manage our bank accounts, including any debt and credit
  • Oversee preparation of financial statements
  • Oversee AP/AR, actively managing invoicing, AR and monthly revenue recognition
  • Work with Sales and services teams to ensure customer agreements are accounted for
  • Maintain and prepare commission statements for Sales
  • Oversee HR function, including compliance, payroll and benefits with our outsourced HR partner
  • Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and experience with SaaS finance
  • A BS in Finance, Business or Accounting; an MBA is a plus
  • 4 years CPA experience with at least two years in corporate accounting
  • 5-7 years of experience in a related role with startup experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated management, communications, and interpersonal skills
  • Eagerness to wear many hats in a dynamic startup environment

About the Role

As a LearnZillion Coach, you will join a national community of coaches who lead powerful blended professional learning experiences for teachers and instructional leaders. You’ll be responsible for facilitating powerful learning for small teams of teacher leaders at in-person onsite workshops several times over the school year and through ongoing online professional learning communities (PLCs) using discussion boards and video conferencing. Your charge is to create a community that supports one another in planning instruction, and sharing best practices.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate engaging blended professional learning experiences for a team of teacher leaders.
  • Develop a collegial and supportive long-term relationship with the teacher leaders and instructional leaders of your assigned PLC, sustaining this relationship through regular remote collaboration.
  • Serve as the main content and pedagogical point of contact between your team of teacher leaders and the LearnZillion team, responding to questions from teachers and instructional leaders within 48 hours.
  • Provide feedback to teacher leaders on the content and instructional materials that they develop.
  • Support a process of continual and rapid improvement of LearnZillion’s in-person and virtual professional development curriculum, including participating in regular trainings and evaluations of workshops.
  • Maintain reliable communication with other members of the LearnZillion team regarding progress, strengths, and next steps for your team of instructional and teacher leaders.
  • Support fellow coaches through ongoing communication and collaboration with our national team of coaches.
  • Participate in multiple virtual LearnZillion Coach training sessions prior to the event.

About you

  • You love facilitating learning experiences for other adults in small group teams and thinking through how to support teachers in integrating new ideas and approaches into a new curriculum.
  • You enjoy helping teachers create curricular materials including lesson plans, tasks and formative assessments.
  • You are excited to use online collaboration tools to create and sustain an online and in-person community of teacher-learners over the course of an entire school year.
  • You have a deep expertise in facilitating adult learning, which is based in your strong pedagogical and content knowledge of middle or high school social studies.  
  • You have been a teacher leader with a track record of success in student outcomes and experience supporting and developing your colleagues in formal settings.
  • You are eager to scale your impact as part of a national community dedicated to professional learning.

Things we’re looking for in a candidate:

  • Experience planning for, facilitating, and delivering highly effective content- and pedagogical-based Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s). You understand that adults learn best in team settings and you know how to support them in growing their practice and are eager to scale your impact as a leader of professional learning.
  • Ability to build credibility and rapport with adults and to maintain those relationships over time.
  • Strong pedagogical and content knowledge in middle or high school social studies.
  • Experience building high-quality socials studies curricular materials for middle or high school courses
  • Strong sense for how students learn, the misconceptions they have, and the importance of making instructional decisions based on how students learn.
  • Ability to employ a variety of in-person and remote facilitation and listening techniques in order to adapt your approach to meet the needs of participants.
  • A desire to grow and learn as a leader of professional learning and an eagerness to incorporate feedback as you do so.
  • Enthusiasm for rolling up your sleeves to do whatever it takes to make a professional learning workshop “the best PD ever” for teachers.
  • Proficiency in using technology to facilitate learning and an “I can fix this” orientation to troubleshooting technology issues on-the-fly.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset. You work with urgency and produce excellent results with limited time or resources. You are hungry to learn.

Specific requirements:

  • A passion for the mission at LearnZillion
  • BA/BS degree
  • 4+ years as a social studies teacher
  • Formal experience leading successful team-based adult learning
  • Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Available for travel by car and/or plane with some overnight stays throughout the school year
  • Can work a part-time, flexible schedule, including some weekends:
    • Approximately 2 - 6 hours a week between in-person events (this will vary depending on the needs of your coaching group and may sometimes involve additional hours)  
    • Three separate in-person events - a 2-day kick-off, and two 1-day follow-up events, plus additional time for travel.

Compensation:

  • $45/hour for in-person work
