Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine independently; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Checks stock inventory of materials and tools to determine the amount available; anticipating needed stock.
  • Programs mill/turn machines and lathes using CAD/CAM software; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, attachments, collets; indicating vices.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.

Key Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience preferred in the set-up of CNC lathes and CNC vertical milling machines

  • Knowledge in use of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID, and OD micrometers, depth gauges, and indicators.
  • Strong understanding of blueprint reading/ geometric tolerance interpretation.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate the CMM machinery and check the dimensional accuracy of different parts and assemblies.
  • Determine program requirements based on design and engineering requirements.
  • Ensure that CMM is in working condition and properly calibrated.
